Plum is pleased to welcome Carrie Ellert, 2nd Year Midwifery Student, UBC Midwifery Program to our team for Jan to April 2016.
My name is Carrie Ellert. I am in my second year of Midwifery and very grateful for the opportunity to grow at Plum Midwifery under Emma Gledhill’s guidance.
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2004 at the University of Calgary. I spent most of my eleven years of nursing, as a Paediatric Intensive Care nurse in Melbourne, Australia. Through nursing I have volunteered in Haiti on two separate occasions, and this summer I was volunteering in the Democratic Republic of Congo with Operation Smile.
Throughout my first year of Midwifery at UBC, I volunteered with the Fir Square Doula program. This opportunity expanded my cultural awareness, along with gifting me the tools to be present with women and their community throughout one of the most transformative times of their lives. It truly is a privilege to be with women and their families, and learn from each unique birth journey.
In my spare time I can be found practicing yoga. Through yoga, I experience joy amongst the challenges. I love being outdoors and have previously volunteered with the first aid ski patrol team at Mt Washington. I am also a rock climber and have climbed outdoors in South America, South East Asia, Australia and Canada.
I believe that supportive relationships are what enable a woman to thrive and that it takes a community to grow a child. I am passionate about women’s health and a strong
advocate for informed choice and women-centered care. It is an honour to witness the strength and innate wisdom throughout the process of birth. I look forward to meeting all of you over the next few months.
