Plum is pleased to welcome Jennesse Oakhurst, RM to our team for the month of July. She will be a locum midwife covering for Cat de Cent, RM, who is away for the summer. Jennesse will be answering pager calls, running clinics at our Comox Office, attending births and visiting our postpartum clients. Please see her bio below…
” I moved to the Comox Valley at the end of March 2015. Although I retired at that time, the “plan” was to be a second birth attendant at home births and to do a few, short term locums, with other practices, and in the north. It makes me very happy to begin this at Plum Midwifery. Prior to March I lived and practiced in the Fraser Valley for 20 years and in Ottawa/Hull area for 2 years. My experience also includes two years working in Nunavut and Northern Quebec, largely with Inuit women.
I have three adult children who live on the mainland, and while they were young I was a La Leche League leader and became a lactation consultant (IBCLC).
As I was already a Midwife when registration began I was “grannyed in”. My training was through apprenticeship with two separate practices in the Ottawa area. After that I went to Maternidad La Luz in El Paso Texas to continue, and have followed that up with numerous conferences and workshops.
I look forward to meeting many of you over the next few weeks, while we go through the experience of prenatal/postpartum and birth!”
